Abstract: Experimental tests have been carried out to study the charring of cross- laminated timber (CLT)wall panels under standard fire exposure, by using a fire- resistance furnace. The temperature curves at different depths within the CLT panels, charring depths and charring rates are examined. The effect of different adhesives on delamination and charring rate are studied. Methods of calculating the charring depth of CLT with or without delamination occurrence are also presented and discussed. The results show that the CLT panels manufactured using normal PUR adhesive had the first layer fall-off at about 50~ 60 min, and the charring rate increased considerably after falloff of the first layer. However, the CLT panel smanufactured using heat- resist PUR adhesive exhibit no obvious delamination, and the charring rates remained constant during tests, which are consistent(0.65 mm/min)with the design value of normal timber structures as given in Eurocode 5.
