Abstract: Aiming at cable fire safety in narrow channels, such as cable trench and cable interlayer, combustion experiments of overloaded cables were carried out in this work. The characteristic parameters such as ambient temperature rise, typical gas mass concentration, fire spreading rate and flameout distance were quantitatively characterized. The results showed that the amount of generated CO2 at the initial burning stage is much greater than the amount of generated CO. In a certain range of current intensity, the cable fire spread rate and flameout distance are approximately linearly positive correlated with the current intensity. Moreover, propose prevention and control measures for cable fire were put forward from the aspects such as electrical circuit monitoring and early fire detection methods and fire barriers, which can provide guidance for cable fire safety in narrow channels.
